How to Clear Decals in CS2

In CS2 decals are a big part of the visual storytelling. Bullet holes, blood splats and graffiti marks add to the environment.

But as decals build up they can clutter the game space and interfere with gameplay.

Clearing decals in CS2 is different from CS:GO. The old "r_cleardecals" command is gone.

Valve has introduced new commands to handle decals in CS2 ("cl_decal_clear_world" and "cl_decal_clear_all_entities"), but you can only use them in matches where you can use the "sv_cheats 1" command. This means that it is not possible to play with these commands in official matches.

To easily clear decals in CS2, enable the developer console, type "sv_cheats 1", then type commands like "cl_decal_clear_world" or "cl_decal_clear_all_entities".

Here’s what you need to know about CS2 clear decals:

  • New commands: "cl_decal_clear_world" and "cl_decal_clear_all_entities" replace the old "r_cleardecals" command.
  • Limited: These new commands don’t clear all blood effects, just some of them.
  • Restrictions: CS2 clear decals commands won’t work in Premier Matchmaking or official matches.
  • Cheat protection: You need to enable cheats by setting "sv_cheats 1" first.
  • Console access: Enable the developer console in game settings, then open it with the tilde (~) key.
  • Private servers: You can use these commands only on private servers or local games with bots.
  • Game balance: Valve’s changes are to prevent players from getting an advantage through decal clearing.
  • Visual processing: The new decal system is to improve the game’s overall visual performance.

While the options are limited, now you know what to do.

Clearing decals in CS2 may change in the future, so keep an eye out for Valve’s announcements.
