CS2 Lagging After Update? My Personal Fix and Performance Boost Guide
As a fellow CS2 player, I know how frustrating it can be when your game starts lagging after an update. I recently experienced this issue myself, with my fps dropping from 800+ in CSGO to a choppy 100-150 in CS2.
After trying numerous fixes, I finally found a solution that worked for me, and I want to share it with you.
Here's what worked for me:
- Delete the DirectX installer folder. Go to your CS2 directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive) and delete the "directx_installer" folder.
- Clear your DirectX Shader Cache. Search for "cleanup" in Windows, run Disk Cleanup, check the box next to DirectX Shader Cache, and delete the files.
- Restart your computer.
- Verify game files. In Steam, right-click CS2, go to Properties > Installed Files, and click "Verify integrity of game files".
- Adjust your Nvidia Control Panel settings. I found specific settings that helped, but you might need to experiment to find what works best for your setup.
- Optimize in-game video settings. I set Anti-Aliasing to NONE, Nvidia Low Latency to OFF, Texture to MID, Shadow to HIGH, and everything else to OFF or LOW.
After following these steps, my performance improved dramatically.
I now get over 300 fps consistently, with peaks over 1000 fps in some areas. The game feels smooth and responsive, almost like CSGO did.
If you're still experiencing issues, particularly with 1% Low fps, there's one more trick you can try:
- Open the Steam console by pasting "steam://open/console" into your web browser.
- In the console, type "shader_build 730" and press enter.
- Launch CS2 and play in a practice game for a few minutes.
- Let Steam build your shaders in the background.
This process can take some time, so it's a good opportunity to grab a coffee or a snack while you wait.
Remember, what worked for me might not work perfectly for everyone. CS2 is still relatively new, and optimizations are ongoing.
Don't be afraid to experiment with different settings to find what works best for your system.
If you're still experiencing lagging after trying these steps, it might be worth checking the official CS2 forums or reaching out to the community for more specific advice tailored to your hardware setup.
I hope this guide helps you get back to enjoying smooth, lag-free CS2 gameplay. Good luck, and I'll see you on the server!
