Where to Put CS2 Autoexec: A Simple Guide for Easy Setup

Setting up your CS2 autoexec doesn't have to be complicated.

I've found that knowing where to put your autoexec file is important for getting your custom settings to work every time you launch the game.

The correct location for your CS2 autoexec is in the "cfg" folder of the game files.

Here's exactly where to put it:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo\cfg

This is where CS2 looks for the autoexec file when you start the game. If you're coming from CS:GO, note that the path has changed slightly.

The "game" folder is new in CS2.

To create your autoexec:

  1. Navigate to the folder path above
  2. Create a new text file and name it "autoexec.cfg"
  3. Open it with Notepad and add your desired commands
  4. Save the file

After placing your autoexec in the correct folder, you need to tell CS2 to run it. Right-click CS2 in your Steam library, select Properties, and add "+exec autoexec.cfg" to the launch options.

If your autoexec isn't working, double-check the file location. A common mistake is putting it in the old CS:GO folder instead of the new CS2 path. Also, make sure the file extension is .cfg, not .txt.

Remember, your autoexec can include any console commands you want to run automatically. This could be your preferred crosshair settings, viewmodel adjustments, or custom binds.

By putting your CS2 autoexec in the right place, you'll make sure your settings are consistent every time you play, whether you're at home or at a LAN event.

It's a simple step that can make a big difference in your CS2 experience.
